Jackie Adams Wins at Dual Lanes

Jackie Adams, the 2009 WNDA Bowler of the Year, has added another championship to her resume by outscoring 10-time tour winner Andrea Lanahan in the final match of the opening event at Dual Lanes. Adams posted a score of 154 to Lanahan's 122. This topped off a great weekend for Adams who was also inducted into the WNDA Hall of Fame on Saturday evening.

WNDA Duckpin Olympics Ladder at Dual Lanes in Hagerstown: (left to right) Jen DiStefano, Becky Sieck, Jackie Adams, Andrea Lanahan, Kendra Boswell.

It took a qualifying round score of 1083 or a pins-over-average of +71 to advance to Sunday's semi-finals. Last year's Hagerstown champion, Melissa Mahoney, barely missed qualifying with her score of 1079 and was the alternate.

Scores in the semi-final round were terrific with over half of the field averaging better than 140 for their five game head-to-head round. Jen DiStefano was the wild card (4-1,745) and faced off against Becky Sieck (4-1,716) in the first game. Sieck won the match and moved on to meet Kendra Boswell (4-1, 752) on the lanes. Both women bowled well but, in the end, Boswell demonstrated why she has 8 tour wins by taking the match 151-130. Boswell now had to bowl against Jackie Adams (5-0, 737). This was Adams' 5th ladder appearance in her last five tournaments. The match was close until Adams edged out Boswell 134-127. Adams went on to the final game against Andrea Lanahan (5-0, 784).

The WNDA's opening tournament drew a total of 76 entries, with four of the bowlers hailing from Canada. Local television station WHAG and the Hagerstown Herald-Mail sent representatives to cover the event.

The WNDA is Going GREEN

We are all too well aware of how fragile our environment can be and the effect modern life has on it. The WNDA has recently launched a DO IT FOR THE GREEN initiative that is intended to make our organization more eco-friendly and to help raise awareness amongst our members, supporters, and fans.

In April, we entered into a partnership with Gazelle to recreate a responsible electronics recycling program. Americanʼs throw away more than 350,000 cell phones in excess of 130,000 computers daily - making electronic waste the fastest growing part of the U.S. garbage stream. When improperly disposed of, these products can leak lead, cadmium, mercury... you get the idea. These can all affect the quality of clean water, agriculture, air and soil. Gazelle is one of the premier recyclers in the US and has a series of service providers that refurbish or recycle these products in full compliance with EPA and international standards.

Our partnership with Gazelle is not without other benefits. If electronics can be refurbished and sold on the secondary market, the WNDA will receive another kind of green - a portion of the proceeds. Do you or your company have any old electronics still laying around? Perhaps an old computer, monitor, mobile phones, video games, calculators, digital cameras or camcorders? Doing Spring cleaning and find things you just don't use any more? Or are you planning to upgrade your mobile phone or television? Now you can join the WNDA DO IT FOR THE GREEN program and get rid of them responsibly and safely at no cost to you? Even the shipping cost is taken care of!

We have set a goal of recycling $2,000 worth of electronics in 2010. Our special Gazelle page will track our progress towards meeting this goal. So, dig up those old electronics and point your computerʼs browser to http://wnda.gazelle.com. This custom page will step you through the process of getting your items ready for proper recycling.

Recycle Old Toner & Ink Cartridges

The WNDA has joined Stapleʼs ink and toner recycling program. Not only does it help to ensure that used cartridges are properly disposed of, but the WNDA receives credits that we can apply towards our operating supplies and costs. After only two days in the program, it has already helped cut the cost of office supplies.

Donʼt throw out those old or empty cartridges. If your employer doesnʼt already have a similar program, offer to dispose of their empties through our recycling program. You can bring them to a WNDA event and there will be a collection box near the sign-in station or you can give them to any WNDA officer or Governing Body representative.

Help save the environment and cut our expenses at the same time.

New Facebook Page

The WNDA now has a Facebook page! You can find a link to it on the home page of our web site. Please become our fan. We are still working on how the page will be used and what content will be posted there, versus our own website. We will be using it to host photos, video, and other multimedia content. The WNDA website will remain our primary means of posting news and announcements.

It would help if you'd let us know what you'd like to see.
